About the role

We’re really stoked that you’re considering this volunteer role with Possum Portraits to help us create a number of short videos and showcase the work we do.

What we’re looking for are videographers who want to commit to filming and editing one or more short (2-3 minute) videos at each of our artists‘ studios in and around Melbourne.

Each video will be filmed at a single location in metro Melbourne and surrounds (exact location depends on where the artist’s studio is). The type of footage we seek includes interviewing the artists, filming them at work on a portrait and close-ups of the completed drawing.

Our schedule is flexible – a date and time that suits both yourself, one of our staff and the artist will be agreed upon for filming once you’re on board. Once filming is completed, we would love for you to have the skills and access to the required software to edit the footage into a final video file.

You have a lot of creative freedom on this project – other than a few directives regarding what we need the video to show, you can really let your style and creativity shine!

We would need you to supply:

  • videography equipment, incl. cameras, lighting and any accessories you require
  • sound recording equipment (other than a lapel microphone, which we have)

We will provide:

  • reimbursement for your travel costs to and from the filming location (within Victoria only)
  • any required filming props
  • licensed audio files (music) to be used in the finished videos
  • logos for use in videos

We look forward to your application!

About the organisation

Organisation name : Possum Portraits

Possum Portraits was founded in Melbourne in 2021 to relieve the emotional distress and suffering of bereaved families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

We provide early-intervention bereavement care to families after pregnancy and baby loss, working with a network of over 150 maternity hospitals and other care providers nationwide to reach affected families immediately as their need arises.

Our two main support vehicles for providing bereavement care to grieving families are our hand-drawn memorial portraits and, as of 2024, our psychotherapeutic children’s book titled “The House in Ollie’s Tummy”. Our family system supports lower a griever’s risk of developing psychopathology after loss and help improve their mental health outcomes.

All of our portraits are hand-drawn by professional portrait artists and designed in concert with parents to ensure their portrait meets their commemorative wishes.
